Vapo and its partners are working to develop bioenergy activities throughout the energy value chain, from producing fuels to heat generation and distribution. Our objective is to operate according to sustainable development principles whilst minimizing the environmental footprint of our activities throughout the energy value chain.
Vapo is activiely developing new methods for responsible peat production and the after-use of peatlands. An important focus area is to improve water treatment methods at peat bogs. Vapo works with several research institutes, universities and consultancy groups. Long-term partners have included VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, the Finnish Forest Research Institute and the Universities of Joensuu and Jyväskylä.
The EU's Renewable Heating and Cooling Platform programme provides a vantage point on the future of renewable energy sources. Vapo is actively involved in the programme. The objective is to create a vision, objectives and a strategic research agenda for 2020–2050 for generating heat from renewables in the EU.
