 Business operations

Our business operations are divided into the Grow&Care, Energy and New Businesses divisions. The Supply Chain Management function used by all three business divisions manages peat production, logistics services and procurement, among other things, in many countries. The Group services shared by all business operations are managed by the Group Service function.

Our Grow&Care division is Europe’s leading producer of home gardening and professional growing media. Our product selection also includes products targeted at home gardeners and landscapers. Our other sectors are recycling and composting as well as bedding peat.

Our target is to provide horticultural solutions that support sustainable development and conserve fresh water, catering to the growing global trend of clean local food and the construction of attractive and pleasant living environments.

Our main markets are in the Nordic countries and the Netherlands, but our products are available globally in more than 100 countries. Starting from the beginning of 2019, we will operate under the name of Kekkilä-BVB Oy.

The figures are 12-month pro forma figures.

New Businesses

Our New Businesses division uses its in-house product development activities to create new products and innovations based on refining peat and other natural materials into air and water purification products, for instance.

Examples of product development include the fibre business that was transferred to the Grow&Care division and the Carbons business that is based on the production of activated carbon. Our most important assets are our innovative professionals and the management of existing information.

Vapo Carbons

Vapo Carbons is a forerunner in the growing activated carbon market. The first Vapo Carbons production facility will be completed in 2020 in Ilomatsi, eastern Finland.

The most familiar everyday applications include car cabin air filters, extractor hoods, water filters and vacuum cleaners.

Vapo Group announces ambitious sustainability targets

Vapo Group has published its first Corporate Responsibility Report based on the GRI framework that covers all of the Group’s operating countries.

Vapo maps out strategic options for its heat and power businesses

The use of energy peat is estimated to decrease by half in Finland by 2025, which will inevitably reduce Vapo’s cash flow from energy peat. In order to outline its energy business over the long term, Vapo has decided to begin mapping out strategic options for its heat and power businesses incorporated as Nevel.

Nevel builds on long-term local cooperation with the acquisition of Taebla and Palivere district heating networks in Estonia

Nevel, an advanced infrastructure solutions company, has acquired two district heating networks from the company AS Lääne-Nigula Varahaldus. The acquisition is a continuation of over a decade of efficient energy production in the region and promises to bring an improved customer experience and increased use of renewable energy.

Nevel’s partnership with Kamstrup helping to take municipal infrastructure to the next level through smart metering

Smart metering will enable more efficient energy production and a better customer experience in district heating networks.

Vapo and responsibility

Responsibility is the foundation for Vapo Group’s operations. We use natural raw materials to produce growing media, heat, energy and new innovations that promote sustainable development. We use our raw materials to build sustainable growth and well-being for people and the communities we operate in. The responsibility programme designed to support Vapo Group’s new strategy is entitled “Sustainable growth and well-being from nature”.
